Almost all Kittilä municipality councillors are suspected of abuse of office, reported a Finnish language weekly Suomen Kuvalehti.

Eight of the nine municipal board members are suspected while 23 of the 27 councillors are also suspected of malfeasance.

The Chair and the Vice chair of the municipality board as well as the Vice Chair of the municipality council are also suspected of aggravated attempt of fraud.

The case has already been referred for consideration of charges.

The suspicion is related to the dismissal of former Mayor Anna Mäkelä which the Ad-ministrative Court of Northern Finland termed as unjustified.

The council proceeded with dismissing even after having been warned in advance that their decision would be unlawful.

The controversy in Kittilä began when the mayor informed the police about the activities of a Kittilä-based ski lift company CEO.
