The legal proceedings of the case related to drug and abuse of power against former Helsinki drug unit police chief Jari Aarnio came to an end in the Helsinki District Court on Wednesday.

The process began in June last year, and the verdict will be given in August at the earliest, court sources said.

Twelve other suspects are also enmeshed in the case. All of them, like Aarnio, have disputed the charges levied at them.

The drugs and abuse of power case has been heard for a total of 96 days. Before that, the case dealing with the so-called monitoring device company Trevoc was heard for 31 days in total.

The court has heard 155 witnesses in the case and almost 3,000 written testimonies were presented to it from various sources.

Aarnio worked for many years as the chief of the Helsinki drug police. The prosecution is demanding a prison sentence of more than 10 years.
