A ruling Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) leader Terhi Kiemunki, who made racial and derogatory remarks about Muslim children in a Facebook post has been sacked from her post.

The executive body of the party’s Pirkanmaa unit on Sunday has removed Terhi Kiemunki as vice president after a vote of no confidence.

According to the district leadership, the matter is closed.

Party’s spokesperson Jaana Ristimäki-Anttila said the party executive body took the decision after threadbare discussion of the issue for several hours in the afternoon.

Kiemunki raised ire on Palm Sunday after commenting on Muslim girls participating in the Finnish tradition of Virvonta.

On Easter, Kiemunki wrote in a Uusi Suomi blog that Islam is being relentlessly subjected onto all people. Uusi Suomi removed the post soon after its publication.

In the post, Terhi Kiemunki, the first vice president of the Finns Party Pirkanmaa district chapter, wondered if integration is when “Muslim brats” participate in Virvonta and that she was vexed she did not have condoms to dish out.

Later, she removed the post and apologised for it.

Earlier, on Friday, Kiemunki told reporters that she had herself requested a police investigation into her own writing.

At the time Kiemunki told the Finnish news agency STT over telephone that she wanted an answer to whether her writing was considered racist or illegal.

“If a person is directly called a racist, it has to be based on something. Now the police are investigating the matter. These stories are completely fabricated by social media trolls,” Kiemunki told STT on Friday.

Kiemunki works as an assistant to Finns Party lawmaker Lea Mäkipää.

Mäkipää did not respond to STT requests for clarification.
