FTimes – STT Report, Apr 5

A group of 11 Syrian refugees arrived in the country on Monday as part of the EU refugee exchange programme, said the European Commission.

The exchange is based on the agreement between the EU and Turkey. According to the deal, asylum seekers arriving without authorisation on Greek islands will be turned back to Turkey. Based on the agreement, the EU will accept one Syrian refugee for each person returned to Turkey this way.

The Interior Ministry used the social media site Twitter to announce that the newly-arrived Syrians will be accommodated at a reception centre until a municipal placement can be arranged. There are three families among the new arrivals.

The refugees arriving in Finland as part of the exchange belong to the refugee quota. Finland has agreed to accept 600 Syrians this year as part of the deal.

In addition to Finland, 32 Syrians arrived in Germany on Monday. According to the European Commission, the Netherlands expects to receive more Syrians on Tuesday.

The return of refugees from Greece to Turkey began on Monday.
