Finds TNS Gallup polls
FTimes – STT Report, Apr 22

Performance of the three-party alliance government has not garnered appreciation from the people of Finland.

According to a TNS Gallup polls, only one in five respondents said the government has succeeded in its job well or fairly well.

About 69 per cent of respondents believe the government has performed poorly or fairly poorly.

The Juha Sipilä-led government now has a performance grade as weak as that of the previous Alexander Stubb-led government back in the autumn of 2014.

The government’s approval rating was lower than this only during the beginning of the recession in the 1990s.

Over the past half year, the assessment of government performance has clearly deteriorated. Even in the last autumn, the approval rating was 16 per cent higher.

Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) supporters are particularly dissatisfied with the government. Only 21 per cent of them are satisfied, compared to 73 per cent who are dissatisfied.

The opposition did not fare any better. About 66 per cent of the respondents rated the opposition’s performance as poor or fairly poor. The number of those satisfied with the opposition, though, rose by 4 percentage points from October.
