A man strangled a 12-year-old girl at Suurpelto in Espoo on Monday, said the police.
The police received a call at around 2.00pm about the man who was threatening passersby in Suurpelto.
The police rushed to the spot and found the man strangling a young girl.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. She was conscious during the transportation.
The police did not have exact information on her condition on Monday afternoon.
The incident is being investigated as an attempt to murder. The police detained the suspect, a 57-year-old man.
Before strangling the girl, the man was, according to the police, taking backpacks from children on their way to school and taking from them, for example, mobile phones.
