FTimes – STT Report, May 26

The Oulu District Court on Wednesday sentenced a man to two years and 10 months in jail for a rape that took place in Kempele last year.

The convict, a young man of foreign origin, raped a 14-year-old girl in November 2015.

According to the court, the man was found guilty of aggravated rape of a young person and aggravated child sexual abuse. The convicted rapist only turned 18 after the crime.

The girl was quite heavily intoxicated, which the rapist took to his advantage. In addition, the rapist was fully aware of the girl’s age.

The convict denied having committed the rape. According to him, the girl agreed voluntarily to have intercourse with him.

In addition to imprisonment, the offender must pay 8,000 euros in compensation to the girl.

The news agency STT did not publish the name of the offender, because he was not yet 18 at the time of the crime.

From the court’s minutes, it appears that four young people had spent the evening of the rape together: the girl, two male acquaintances, and the rapist.

The girl told the court that she had met the offender and his acquaintances only a few days or weeks earlier.

Where the young people obtained the whisky they were drinking was not clear from the court’s minutes. The girl was pressured by her friends and the offender to drink the whisky.

Later in the evening, the offender took the girl to his home. Along the way, he laid the girl on the snow and raped her. The girl resisted but was too drunk to defend herself.

According to the court, the rape was aggravated. The girl was quite heavily intoxicated, and the rapist took advantage of her intoxication.
