Ransomware, a form of malware that forces victims to pay ransom to access their systems, has been detected in the information system of some hospitals in the country, reported the national broadcaster Yle based on information received from the National Cyber Security Centre Finland (NCSC-FI).

The Helsinki and Uusimaa Hospital District (HUS) is among the targets where four cases have been detected this spring.

HUS reported than no ransom was paid; however, the matter was reported to the police.

According to Pertti Mäkelä, the head of information management at HUS, no single file was lost in the attack, but rather the files had been restored from backups.

HUS reassured that patients’ safety was not jeopardised in the attacks, according to Yle.
