The theme of the anniversary session was the stability of equality and the promotion of societal development.

In Finland, women received the right to cast votes and contest in elections 110 years ago.

Speaker Maria Lohela in her speech said she was proud of the fact that Finland has been at the forefront of equality between the genders and that Finland gave women the right to vote when it was only a distant dream for many other countries.

“Broadly speaking, our ability to act on gender equality issues is really an example for the whole world. This starting point has created for us a good basis for the continuation of the work on equality,” Lohela said.

After the speaker, parliamentary groups delivered five-minute speeches each.
