The deportation of an Iraqi mother and her 3-year-old daughter from Finland has been put on hold.

Jari Vuorijoki, the lawyer representing the family told the news agency STT that the Supreme Administrative Court declared the deportation order null until it makes a ruling on the leave of appeal or if it decides otherwise.

The mother and the child were supposed to be deported on Friday after their residence permit application was rejected.

Over the weekend, the Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat reported that the father of the family was allowed to stay in the country on asylum grounds, however, the applications of the mother and the 3-year-old daughter for both family unification and asylum were rejected.

The fate of the baby has not been decided yet. Which means the baby can still continue to live in Finland with the father.
