The mayoral model has previously been introduced in Tampere and Pirkkala. Helsinki will be introducing the model next summer.
The mayoral model in Tuusula replaces the chair of the municipal board and the new model will be implimented in June 2017.
The new mayor will be appointed for a maximum term of four years. The selection of the mayor will be made from among the councillors.
Tuusula has about 38,000 residents.
