Six police officers have been charged for causing death by negligence and breach of duty in the Petäjävesi shooting, said the prosecutor’s office of Western Finland.

A man died in March after being shot by police officers in Petäjävesi, Central Finland.

The suspects include both police officers and their superiors.

The investigation has put Southwest Finland Police District Prosecutor Petri Rautio in charge.

Rautio told the news agency STT that all the six police officers are men. The two men who used their guns are police officers, and the remaining four are their superiors.

In the preliminary investigation, all the six were interrogated, and all of them denied the alleged crimes. There has also been a technical investigation into the incident.

Rautio did not comment further on the content of the investigation. The pre-trial investigation is finished, and the case has been transferred to the Central Finland prosecutor’s office.

Immediately following the shooting, the police announced that the man had threatened to fire on the police officers.

The Petäjävesi case is the sixth so far in this century where a police bullet has killed someone.
