The amendment to the alcohol legislation, currently under preparation, will not come into force in the beginning of 2017, as had originally been planned, Family and Social Services Minister Rehula’s adviser Hanna-Maija Kause told the news agency STT.
“The too long a time lost to strike a political compromise stretched the time table,” Kause said.
According to Kause, it is possible to provide more accurate estimates by the end of the summer at the earliest. Currently, the ministry is preparing regulations concerning small breweries.
Kause said the preparation is being done carefully, so that the European Commission too approves the law and be assured that it is in accordance with the market law rules.
Retaining of the microbreweries’ rights, according to Kause, is to be lumped together with the exemption which applies to fermented alcoholic beverages and home-brewed beer.
Fermented alcoholic beverage and home-brewed beer can be sold to consumers at the place of their production.
According to Kause, the microbreweries’ right to sale should be carefully balanced with Alko monopoly.
