More bear hunting licences have been granted this year compared to the last, said the Hunters’ Association.
This year, a total of 113 exemptions were granted by the Finnish game centre. In addition, the quota in reindeer management area has been set at 70 bears.
Last year, 81 exemptions were granted and the quota was set at 52.
The increase in the number of licences was attributed to an increase in the bear population.
Similarly, duck hunting began on the same day.
BirdLife Finland and the Hunters’ Association warned that the birds have to be identified first before shooting.
