An elderly female cyclist was killed when a private car knocked her down on a pedestrian cross-ing in Lappeenranta on Wednesday afternoon, said the Southeast Finland police. 
She was 68.
 
The car was driving along Kivisalmenkatu towards Voisalmi and took a turn on the ramp leading to Taipalsaarentie road. The woman was just crossing the road when the car knocked her down.
 
The cyclist was not wearing the protective helmet at the time of the accident.
 
The police are investigating the accident as aggravated endangering of road safety and man-slaughter.
