The police have been using on trial basis unmanned drones in siege situations, said the police in a statement.

Drones have become everyday tools in technical crime and accident investigations.

It also has been used for instance, during Independence Day protests and siege situations.

“For instance, in June the police besieged the Pelkosenniemi man who had fired several shots from a detached house. To ensure occupational safety, the surveillance of the target building was conducted from the air,” said chief inspector Sami Hätönen from the National Police Board.

The police are intending to acquire equipment which is light to carry and easy to use than the fixed system used by the Defence Forces.
