Two children were burnt to death when a fire broke out in a terrace house at Pattijoki in Rahee, Northern Ostrobothnia early Tuesday.
 
The victims were six years and ten years old.
 
On-duty fire chief Marko Talus said that the two children were injured and taken to the hospital where they succumbed to their wounds. 
 
Police said that one child and the father were rescued from the burning home.
 
The one-story terrace house had four homes. The people from the other homes were able to res-cue themselves, Talus said.
 
According to police, the terrace house was completely destroyed.
 
Talus said that the reason behind the origin of the fire could not be known immediately.
 
According to police, the fire broke out after midnight. The Rescue Department received a notifi-cation at about 12:40 am.
 
When the Rescue Department arrived on the scene, the fire had spread to almost the entire build-ing.
 
The terrace house was located along Järventöläntie.
 
Talus said that the emergency response centre received many notices about the fire.
 
Both police and fire authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
