The Finnish Immigration Service predicts 22 percent more applications based on family ties to be submitted this year compared to last year, said the Immigration Service in a statement.
About 12, OOO applications are expected this year on the basis of family tie as per the Immigration Service estimates.
Last year, more than 9,400 applications based on family ties were submitted.
The increase is mainly a result of residence permit applications made by family members of persons who have been granted asylum.
This year, family members of persons who have been granted asylum are estimated to submit about 3,000 applications, when only 770 applications were submitted in 2015.
Family members of asylum seekers may apply for a residence permit based on family ties when their family member in Finland has been granted a permit to stay in Finland.
