A councilor of Nurmes municipality, who has been convicted for misappropriating fund was asked to resign from the regional council trust activities, reported a Finnish language daily Kar-jalainen on Friday.

Earlier, the District Court of North Karelia on September 12 sentenced the councilor, Ritva Mahlavuori to a 10-month conditional imprisonment for the embezzlement.

She was sentenced for aggravated embezzlement and embezzlement.

According to the verdict, Mahlavuori withdrew funds for her own use from two accounts of el-derly people between the end of the 2014 summer and spring of 2015.

The convict had the right to access the accounts in order to handle matters on behalf of the elder-ly.

She had withdrawn 20,700 euros and 4,000 euros from two separate accounts.

Mahlavuori took the view that she had withdrawn the money as a loan.

She has expressed dissatisfaction with the court verdict.
