Mon, 26 Sep, 2016 01:03:05 AM FTimes-STT Report, Sep 26 The Interior Minister, Paula Risikko. File Photo Lehtikuva. Interior Minister Paula Risikko on Sunday said Finland strongly urged the European Union member states to receive asylum seekers in intra-EU transfers.
Talking to a Finnish language newspaper, Savon Sanomat, Risikko said Finland has raised the issue during meetings of the Council of the EU.
She herself spoke about it at the last Nordic ministerial meeting in Sweden.
“Finland has highlighted the fact that when the EU agrees on an internal burden-sharing mechanism, it should be observed equally,” said the minister, adding, “EU systems erode, if common EU legislation is not complied with.”
Finland has received the second-highest number of intra-EU transferred refugees.
A total of 690 of them have arrived from Greece and Italy so far, equivalent to 71 per cent of the requirement earmarked for Finland.
