Bandits took away valuables worth about EUR 200,000 from a jewellery shop at the Prisma shopping centre in Kotka late Saturday night, after breaking the gate of the shop, the police and the shop owner said.

Owner of the shop Janne Turunen told a Finnish language newspaper, Kymen Sanomat, that the thief stole only gold and diamond jewellery.

“It would appear that the value of the looted jewelleries is more than 200,000 euros,” Turunen told the newspaper.

The police did not confirm Turunen’s estimate, but Detective Chief Inspector Teemu Liikkanen told the news agency STT that the value of the stolen goods is significant.

Therefore, the case is being investigated as aggravated theft.

The police have not given any more detail of the crime as the investigation is at an preliminary stage.

Turunen said the rolling security shutters had been breached.
