Police on Monday recaptured a prisoner, who fled away from the Turku jail in the afternoon.

The 38-year-old prisoner, considered dangerous, escaped from prisoner transport on Rieskaläht-eentie at about 4:00 pm and police arrested him within an hour of the incident from a private yard in Kähäri, about 1.5 kilometers from the scene of the escape.

The man was loose for about 45 minutes. He did not resist re-arrest and the police did not use force.

A number of Southwest Finland police patrols and dog patrols participated in the police opera-tion.

The case is being investigated as a criminal escape from custody, and the preliminary investiga-tion is being conducted to examine the details of the escape.

The man was sent back to prison to carry out his previous sentence.

Inspector Joonas Tikka of the Southwest Finland Police told news agency STT that the prisoner was considered dangerous due to an extensive criminal history.

Earlier, on August 30, another prisoner managed to escape from the Turku jail and police also recaptured him immediate after the incident.
