Thu, 06 Oct, 2016 12:04:22 AM FTimes – STT Report, Oct 6  File Photo – Lehtikuva. Finland may dispatch patrol vessel Merikarhu to the Mediterranean Sea as part of Frontex opera-tion at the beginning of next year, reported a Finnish language daily Helsingin Sanomat.
The matter will be discussed with the European Union border security agency Frontex, and the decision regarding the matter will be made in December at the latest, reported the newspaper.
Based on the current plan, the operation would last for six months, but may continue even after that.
According to the report, the exceptional thing in the operation might be that the majority of the vessel's crew may comprise of foreigners.
It has not yet been decided in which region the vessel will operate.
The Border Guard vessel returned after safeguarding the sea border between Greece and Turkey as part of Frontex operation in spring.
The vessels crew rescued hundreds of people trying to reach Europe, among other things.
