Perussuomalaiset popularity slides further

The main opposition party Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) has caught up with the ruling Suomen Keskusta (Centre Party) in terms of popularity, according to the latest survey by the national broadcaster Yle.

Both the parties are currently level with 20.5 percent of the electorate support.

From July, the support of Keskusta has dropped by 1.3 percent while SDP popularity has risen by 1.6 percent.

Kansallinen Kokoomus (National Coalition Party) is third in the popularity list with 17.1 percent of the voters’ support, and Vihreä liitto (Green League) is fourth enjoying 14 percent of the support.

The Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) has continued to surge ahead from August, and its support currently is at 9.2 percent followed by Vasemmistoliitto (Left Alliance) which has a support base of 8.8 percent.

Taloustutkimus interviewed over 1,900 Finns in which as much as 58 percent revealed their party affiliations.

The interviews were conducted between 12 September and 4 October. The margin of error for the major political parties is approximately 1.8 percent.
