A man, who murdered his mother and tried to assassinate his father in Lieksa in the early spring, was sent for treatment by the North Karelia District Court.

According to the psychological evaluation, the man did not understand his actions at the time of the incident and the court did not send the man to prison, but to treatment.

The man was also ordered by the court to pay compensation to his father. The verdict was deliv-ered at a hearing on Monday.

In the early summer, the court already found the man guilty of the acts.

In March, the man hit his mother with a knife more than 80 times and his father more than 20 times. The mother died, and the father received life-threatening injuries.

In the interlocutory judgement, the man was sent for a psychological evaluation, and the court proceedings resumed upon completion of the findings.
