The Western Uusimaa police arrested two 15-year old boys who masqueraded as clowns late Thursday night.
 
The boys were arrested from Tapiola area at about 8:00 p.m.
 
The police fined the boys for violating law and order, and informed their parents in this regard.
 
In Oulu, the police received information about two incidents on Thursday evening in which peo-ple dressed in clown suits intended for scaring purpose. 
 
One of the incident happened at the city centre of Oulu and the other one in Ritaharju.
 
Finnish language daily Ilkka reported that people dressed as clowns had been sighted in Ostro-bothnia. The police said that the clowns had also been spotted in Vaasa,Kurikka, Pietarsaari and Kokkola.
 
In Kurikka, clown-dressed people frightened and molested young girls.
 
The police stated deliberate scaring in a public place is a crime which could result to a fine.
 
According to the Oulu police, the most serious cases may qualify as illegal threat or a more seri-ous offence.
 
Sairaalaklovnit ry, an association of hospital clowns have condemned people dressed as clowns. According to the association of clowns, scaring is contrary is against all the principles of proper clowns.
 
"These people who disguise themselves to frighten are in no way clowns," said Aino Viertola, the executive director of the association in statement.
