Based on experience, the quality of interpretation services used in the courts and by the police in the recent years has deteriorated, legal expert Antti Riihelä told the Finnish Bar Association magazine, Advokaatti.

The interpreters have problem especially in managing the use of legal terms, said the report based on a survey.

The Finnish Bar Association inquired the level of interpretation from lawyers handling crime, family and administrative legal affairs.

The survey was conducted at the end of September and was answered by 70 lawyers.

Riihelä is the chair of the Criminal Law Expertise Group at the Finnish Bar Association.
