Prosecutors are demanding conditional imprisonment for Matts Olof Valter Gadol, former executive director of the Bensow Children’s Home Foundation.

Gadol is charged with an aggravated accounting offence, two counts of tax evasion felony, and abuse of a position of trust.

The wealthy Bensow Foundation closed its children’s homes in Kauniainen in the autumn of 2013.

According to prosecution, Gadol gave incorrect tax information about the salaries paid, and, among other things, decided to pay fees to a limited company account effectively under his control.

According to the indictment, remuneration to the tune of 200,000 euros for executive duties were paid to a limited liability company account and recorded as company sales for tax purposes for the financial years 2009 to 2012, even though they were Gadol’s own earnings.

In addition, according to the prosecution, Gadol failed to notify the tax authorities of, among other things, his phone, automobile and housing benefits. For 2009 to 2012, the former executive director recorded company payments of more than 60,000 euros for operational space, even though, according to the prosecution, they were housing benefits.

According to the prosecution, Gadol recorded his income as lower than it actually was from 2008-2012.

Three other persons were accused in the case; however, later the charges against them were dropped.
