Three men died and one man severely injured early Saturday after their car veered off the road and overturned on the island of Kemio in southern Finland, local media reported.

Four people were onboard the car when the accident happened. The three victims include a 24-year-old man and a 42-year-old man. The only survivor, who was rescued hours after the accident, were taken to a nearby hospital, newspaper Hufvudstadsbladet quoted rescue service as saying.

According to initial investigations, the driver lost control of the car in a curve. There were also signs of overspeeding.

Heavy snow in Finland on Wednesday and Thursday affected the country's road conditions. However, police have ruled out the possibility that the accident was caused by slippery road.

Finnish law requires the use of winter tyres at this time of the year.
