The Eurofighter Typhoon, a possible candidate to replace the Hornets, could soon be assembled in Finland, said representatives from the aircraft company BAE Systems.
At the moment, the European fighter jets are assembled in four member states: Britain, Spain, Italy, and Germany. The planes have also been sold to third countries, including Saudi Arabia.
In Helsinki, BAE Systems representatives described Finnish requests for information on Hornet successors as very comprehensive. The deadline for responding to the requests is next Tuesday.
Other fighter jets which may replace the Hornets include the Swedish Saab Jas Gripen E, the French Dassault Rafale and the US F-35 and F/A-18 Super Hornet.
The decision to purchase the machines will be made in 2021.
