Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) has called on Finns to measure the indoor radon concentration.

About 2,000 cases of lung cancer are confirmed in the country annually and about 3,000 are as-sociated with radon exposure.

STUK on Saturday said it would distribute free buckets which has radon measurement jar for the first 150 people to arrive at Goodman mall in Hämeenlinna.

Radon is an odourless and invisible radioactive gas that comes from the ground. Half of Finns radiation dose comes from indoor radon air.

Tarja K. Ikäheimonen, Director at STUK emphasised the importance of radon measurement at homes. Children should especially be protected from radon exposure since radiation dose accu-mulates over a lifetime.
