FTimes – STT Report, Nov 20

Fake policemen have been asking elderly people for their bank cards in Western Uusimaa.

In one case, a fake policeman called a woman from Kirkkonummi who was informed that a pos-sible misuse of her account will be investigated.

As a result, the fake police officer said they needed the woman's bank card.

The fake police officer added that the matter should not be spoken to anyone since the investiga-tion is at a delicate phase.

“First, one is hooked to trust (fake police) through a phone call, and then they (fake police offic-ers) come for the card at the front door. Without any form of violence, the woman gave her card to the man who she believed was a plain cloth police,” detective inspector Lauri Hakkala of the Western Uusimaa Police Department told news agency STT.

Hakkala said that the act is very habitual, and usually the fake police officers are old people.

“After a moment the woman thought, was the man on the door a police officer. She understood to call the emergency,” said Hakkala.
