President Sauli Niinistö on Friday granted clemency to two convicts from jail sentences to conditional imprisonment.
The President, however, rejected 18 applications of clemency, national broadcaster Yle reported.
The two, who granted clemency were convicted of aggravated drug offenses, drug use and theft. One of them was sentenced to one year and two months’ imprisonment while the rest was sentenced to three and a half month imprisonment by the courts.
Altogether the president ruled on 26 applications for clemencies. Two of them were granted, 18 were rejected and six were disqualified as they did not fall under presidential authority, said the Yle report.
