Almost 2 kilometres of the Tampere lakeside route tunnel has been excavated so far, said the project management.
The overall project length between Santalahti and Naistenlahti covers 4.6 kilometres and the tunnel road is 2.3 kilometres.
The work at the tunnel is being done in three shifts, said Mauri Mäkiaho, the project manager from Finnish Transport Agency.

According to Mäkiaho, the progress of the work is in schedule and there have been no major surprises.
The tunnel is scheduled to open to traffic in May 2017.
