The Food Safety Authority, Evira, has asked the retailers to stop selling meat imported from the Netherlands due to lack of adequate information about the stuff.

Evira also has ordered for withdrawal of the imported meat from the market as its origin could not be traced because of defective traceability information.

It is not unlikely that the beef and other types of meat have come from unknown sources and could be risky for health, Evira officials said.

The Food Safety Authority also has imposed restrictions on a shipment of horse meat as the product is not named on the labels of the packets.

The Dutch company concerned has exported 50 million kilograms of such kinds of meat to 16 countries across the world.

The Helsinki-based PNM-PAN Nordic Meat imported the meat but the company has already withdrawn the products from the market.

Evira also has decided to send inspectors to the municipalities where the meat is still being sold.
