Computer sales have decreased significantly in West Europe, said an information technology research company.

According to the USA-based research firm, sales of computers this year have suffered a five-fold decline from that in last year.

The main analyst of the company, Meike Escherich, said the sector had never witnessed such a sharp depression in compute sales.

The release of Windows 8 operating system did nothing to boost the sales. Users often hesitate, wondering how well this new system will fit to traditional computers.

HP and Acer have been hurt most hard as their sales plummeted to mere one-third of that they had in last year. Only Apple and Lenovo have managed to increase their computer sales.

People do not feel the need of computers anymore as they are switching to tablet computers and smart-phones, said an industry insider.
