One person was sentenced to three years imprisonment and another to five months for taking away money from the accounts of Nordea Bank through hacking the bank’s website.

The Helsinki Appeal Court awarded the punishment to the criminals, who were acquitted of charges by the district court earlier due to lack of adequate evidence.

The Appeal court awarded three year imprisonment to Pavel Stserbits for attacking the Bank website and taking away EUR 170,000 from the accounts of a number of clients in 2009 and 2010.

The court also ordered the accused to pay compensation of the whole amount and additional EUR 38,000 legal costs to the Bank authority.

The Nordea authority paid the money to the clients after the incident.

The court also convicted an accomplice of the criminal to five months conditional imprisonment and fined EUR 4000 as compensation.

The convicted, however, have the opportunity to go to the Supreme Court against the verdict of the appeal court.
