Finland started to build the country's largest wind park in western city of Vaasa, Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE reported Tuesday.

Finnish wind power company EPV has started the construction of the wind park, which is expected to have a total of 16 wind turbines in the Torkkola area of Vaasa, said the report.

The wind park is believed to be the largest one in Finland, with the production of electricity up to 150 GWh, which accounted for nearly 20 percent of the total electricity produced from wind power in Finland in 2013. The EPV has invested 100 million euros (13.75 million U.S. dollars) in the project.

According to the EPV, the foundation of the wind turbines will be cased in May, and the turbines will be shipped to Vaasa in autumn. The production of electricity will start in summer of 2015.

EPV Wind Power Ltd. was founded in 2007 for conducting wind power projects especially in Ostrobothnia region of Finland, aiming to develop a more environmentally friendly energy production.

According to the requirement of the EU's climate and energy package, Finland should increase the use of renewable energy by 10 percent by 2020
