The number of unemployed persons in the country has decreased by 0.2 per cent in January compared to the corresponding period in the previous year, putting the country’s unemployment rate at 8.5 per cent.
According to Statistics Finland's Labour Force Survey, the number of unemployed persons in January 2014 was 221,000, which was 7,000 less than a year ago.
The unemployment rate was 8.5 per cent, having been 8.7 per cent in January of the year before.
There were 16,000 fewer employed persons than in January of the previous year.
The number of persons in the inactive population was 32,000 higher in January 2014 than one year earlier.
In January 2014, the number of employed persons was 2,385,000 (margin of error ±31,000), which was 16,000 lower than a year earlier.

The number of employed persons decreased in the private sector and grew slightly in the public sector compared with January 2013.
In January, the employment rate, that is, the proportion of the employed among persons aged 15 to 64, stood at 67.0 per cent, which was almost the same as one year before.
Men's employment rate was 67.2 per cent and women's 66.7 per cent. Adjusted for seasonal and random variation, the trend of the employment rate was 68.5 per cent.
The number of unemployed men was 128,000 and that of women 93,000.
Men's unemployment rate was 9.5 per cent and women's 7.4 per cent. The trend of the unemployment rate was 8.4 per cent.
