At least eight tax offices in the country may come to forced closures if the new customer service 2014 project is implemented.

Offices in Jyväskylä, Lahti, Joensuu, Kokkola, Pori, Rovaniemi, Hämeenlinna and Lappeenranta are the endangered offices.

Heli Lähteenmäki, director of Tax Administration, criticised the project as costly, adding that it would only weaken the service.

Lähteenmäki said customer service would be handled at common service points by municipal officials. As per the laws, they do not have sufficient mandate to deal with matters pertaining taxation.

The common service points would require customers to book appointments with tax administration specialists. This measure would force the customer to come for a second time.
