Still, the figures reflecting timber purchases were slightly more than the average sales in the past decade.
The Finnish Forest Industries bought 31 million cubic metres of timber from private forests in 2014. Furthermore, the forest industry’s raw timber costs also dropped slightly.
This figure was 7 per cent less than the total timber purchased in 2013.
Timber trading was more active in the beginning of last year than in recent years but faded towards the end of the year due uncertainty pertaining to winter harvesting conditions.
Winter harvesting requires frosty conditions.
The Finnish Forest Industries forecast that new investment in the sector will increase the demand by 10 million cubic metres, or more than 20 per cent, by 2017.
The most significant investment is the planned bio-product plant in Äänekoski.
