Blueberry harvest this summer is expected to be relatively better in the south of Finland.

According to natural products company Arktiset Aromit ry, the harvest in the south is also clearly better than the average yearly harvest.

The berry harvest in the north is less but still is expected to be available in moderation.

Most of the berries will be harvested by 3,500 pickers from Thailand. This year the industry will buy record number of berries from pickers.

Last year, nearly six million kilos of blueberry harvest came from counties in Lapland.

Blueberry blossoms gradually and due to chilly weather the berries also ripen slowly.

The berries have already been ripe and ready for picking in the south for a couple of weeks now.

In Central part of the country the blueberries have been ripe for harvest in bright picking spots. Machine picking in Central Finland could start from next week.

Berries will ripe for machine picking in the North in mid-August which is two weeks late compared to last year.

Blueberries growing in forest areas have suffered this season due to rainfall and better quality will be available in the areas where wind and sun have managed to dry the blueberries.

Lingonberry will be ripe for machine picking later than usual.
