The chair of Social Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen (Puolue Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP), Antti Rinne on Tuesday recommended including a wider group in the planned social contract, besides the Confederation of Finnish Industries-EK and the employee organisations.

The former finance minister suggested that representatives of small-sized enterprises, pensioners and the unemployed as well as organisations working with children should be included.

The social democrats will invite in September all interested stakeholders in building the envisaged social contract.

According to Rinne, the proposed social contract only means income policy settlements.

SDP on Tuesday published its own proposal on the social contract in downtown Jyväskylä where the party’s lawmakers are currently meeting.

The SDP social contract aims at improving employment growth and price competitiveness as well as halting societal division and inequality.

In the opposition party’s view, the contract should be able to reinforce Finland as a multicultural and racism-free country.

Rinne said he will be sending to all political party leaders an invitation to discuss an open, international and tolerant Finland as well as to re-sign the 1998 charter of European political parties for a non-racist society.
