FTimes – STT Report, Oct 24

The Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK) sought to speed up the processing of asylum applications suggesting to complete decisions in four months, instead of the current half-year.

Speeding up the processing could save Finland up to euro one hundred million per year, according to EK.

In addition, those of working age who are waiting for asylum decisions should be surveyed for their professional and language skills, said EK.

The Confederation also hopes that all employers would be given the opportunity for job trials with favorable candidates among the refugees.

According to EK, language training should also be accelerated.

“Overall, immigrants are a welcome addition to strengthening the Finnish economy and to easing the sustainability gap given time. However, this will not work if we don't get them into work,” EK's director of communications Jouni Kemppainen said in a statement.
