National flag carrier Finnair posted the best quarterly result in its history as the airline's operational result reached euro 64.2 million. Finnair’s revenue amounted euro 637 million which represents an increase of two percent from year on year, said Finnair in a release.

Finnair's CEO Pekka Vauramo said increased load factor and higher ticket revenue in the airline's core business, passenger traffic as well as brisk sales of ancillary services contributed to the result.

Vauramo said passenger traffic improved year-on-year in all traffic areas except domestic flights which is still making loss on several routes.

According to Vauramo, the improvement in the result was attributed not only to increased revenue, but also lower costs. Vauramo said Finnair achieved cost savings in areas such as staff costs and that the airline continued to benefit from the decrease in fuel prices and due to the airline's hedging policy.

Vauramo also revealed that the result was boosted by the airline's Asian sales currencies appreciat-ing against the euro.

The Finnair CEO also revealed that A350 XWB wide-body aircraft will significantly improve the cost-competitiveness and customer experience of the airline's long-haul traffic.
