Fri, 18 Dec, 2015 01:50:35 AM FTimes Report, Dec 18 The government on Thursday issued programme licenses for radio broadcasting until the end of 2019 to 14 companies. One of the applicants got new license while the rest 13 renewed broadcasting licenses with more frequency capacity, said an official press release. Licenses for which there was no scarcity in the frequencies were issued by the Finnish Communications Regulatory Authority on 5 November, 2015. Regarding the cities of Joensuu, Kokkola, Lappeenranta, Loviisa, Mikkeli, Pietarsaari, Raasepori, Rauma and Seinäjoki the number of applications exceeded the number of frequencies available and thus the decision-making power over those licenses was transferred to the government. The companies which got the government approval included Laestadiernas Fridsföreningars Förbund rf:, Radio Foni Oy: Kaimax Media Oy: Kristillinen Media Oy: ; Mediatakojat Oy: Mediatakojat Oy: Kevyt Kanava Oy: NRJ Finland Oy: Järviradio Oy:. The license issued to Laestadiernas Fridföreningars Förbund is a completely new one, while the others extend the coverage area of previously issued licenses. The licensing process is used to promote freedom of expression and to ensure a versatile line of radio programmes, considering the needs of special groups, said the press release. It also aims at ensuring efficient use of spectrum, the press release added. More News
