FTimes – STT Report, Feb 19

The Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota on Thursday announced that it will be conducting a safety recall of approximately 1,124,000 vehicles of RAV4 model 2006-2012 and RAV4 EV of 2012-2014 model.

The recall in Finland applies to over 6,317 RAV4 model on the road.

According to Toyota, there is a possibility that in the event of a very severe frontal crash, the lap belt webbing could contact a portion of the metal seat cushion frame, become cut, and separate.

If this occurs, the seat belt may not properly restrain the occupant, which could increase the risk of injury.

The British daily Financial Times reported that Toyota said it had received two reports, one from the US and one from Canada, where a crash occurred and the seat belt separated.

There has been no single incident in the country where seat belt fault has been reported, said Toyota Auto Public Relations Manager in Finland, Kalle Kalaja.
