Finland's Slot Machine Association (RAY) is set to begin negotiations to launch talks with the municipalities of Tampere and Turku about the possible establish-ment of a new casino in one of the cities.

Currently RAY operates one casino in Helsinki. Several locations have been ear-marked for setting up of the second casino in the country.

“On the basis of our analysis, Turku and Tampere besides Helsinki are the only kind of cities in Finland which may have all-year-round client potential,” said Timo Kiiskinen, business director of RAY.

Kiiskinen stressed that RAY is not compelled in any way to set up a casino if it does not prove to have sound financial basis for business.

RAY received 76 applications for the establishment of the second casino in the country by the deadline date.

The applications came from 30 municipalities such as Tampere, Turku, Oulu, Lahti, Kuopio and Jyväskylä.
