The District Court of Tuusula on Friday fined infrastructure and construction company Destia 50,000 euros for environmental degradation.

The environment crimes happened in the Uusimaa region of Mäntsälä in September 2010 to June 2012.

The environmental degradation relates to unauthorised extraction of earth material outside the ridge area. The excavation was widespread and caused pollution.

The extraction of the earth material was likely to cause changes to the ground water situation, the court stated.

The court pointed out that quite a large amount of earth material was extracted from the unauthorised area.

The project manager, the site manager and the site engineer who worked at Destia were given day fines.
