Motor vehicle sales grew strongest among the sectors of trade, altogether by 12.4 per cent year-on-year in February, 2016, according to Statistics Finland.

The sales in total trade went up by 1.9 per cent from February last year.

The growth was affected by increased sales of new motor vehicles, as the data indicate that the number of first registrations of motor vehicles was also 13.5 per cent higher in February than in February 2015.

In retail trade, the sales volume increased by 3.7 per cent in February and in wholesale trade by 2.8 per cent from one year earlier. Thus, sales increased in total trade by 4.6 per cent.

The volume index of sales is calculated by removing the effect of price changes from the value index series.

Due to fallen prices, the sales volume developed more favourably than turnover in all sectors of trade.

Retail trade sales decreased by 0.2 per cent in January to February from January to February 2015.

Sales in wholesale trade fell, in turn, by 2.4 per cent, whereas in motor vehicle trade, sales grew by 10.6 per cent from the year before.

In January to February, total trade sales remained at the same level as in January to February 2015, the statistics show.
